Our Design Camps are fun and engaging in-person creative workshops suitable for children aged 8 – 11 and young people aged 11 – 14.

August camps

Design Camp: Skateboard Deck Design for 8 to 11 year olds

Children will learn about the unique skill of deck pressing using the vacuum press – a hands-on experience designing, making and decorating a skateboard deck to keep.

Young people will learn about the unique skill of deck pressing using the vacuum press – a hands on experience designing, making and decorating a skateboard deck to keep.

Design Camp: Architectural Drawing for 8 to 11 year olds

Children will discover new ways to draw and learn more about buildings and cities through this workshop on architectural drawing.

Design Camp: Digital 3D Character Design for 8 to 11 year olds

A workshop to spark children's creativity and master the realm of 3D character design and digital sculpting – an ideal platform for emerging digital artists and game enthusiasts.

Design Camp: Strange Designs for 8 to 11 year olds

Children will be invited to take inspiration from unusual designs from our handling collection to re-imagine everyday objects and create something uniquely strange!

Design Camp: Enzo Mari Lino Printing for 11 to 14 year olds

Young people will learn how to make their own concertina book using lino print techniques inspired by the work and ethos of Italian designer Enzo Mari.

October camps

Design Camp: Coding and Interactive Storytelling for 8 to 11 year olds

In this introductory workshop, children will learn to code by writing interactive stories inspired by Tim Burton’s unique imagination. They will write exciting narratives and turn them into simple text-based video games using the coding engine Twine.

Design Camp: Architecture and Worldbuilding for 11 to 14 year olds

Inspired by the settings of Tim Burton’s films, and exploring architectural designs from across the world, young people will create their own architectural models and scenery for a character in this session led by artist and educator Wilson Yau. Whether it’s gothic or fantastical, they will design and make something unexpected to take home.

Design Camp: Stop Motion Animation for 11 to 14 year olds

In this workshop led by illustrator and animator Lauren Veevers, young people will dive into the world of Tim Burton, and explore his creative process and enchanting characters before designing their very own, alongside a weird and wonderful world for them to live in.

Design Camp: Strange Designs for 8 to 11 year olds – Halloween

Inspired by unusual designs, children will be encouraged to reimagine everyday objects in this creative session led by artist and educator Sal Jones. They will take inspiration from our exhibition, 'The World of Tim Burton,' and have access to part of the museum’s handling collection to create their own designs that challenge convention.

Design Camp: Digital Character Design for 11 to 14 year olds

In this introductory course, young people will be introduced to character design inspired by Tim Burton's imagination. They will design their own characters with plasticine and then learn how to redesign them using 3D modelling software.
