Design Museum Academy Young People Workshop
Design Camp: Designing with Light and Shadow for 11 to 14 year olds
Young people will discover cyanotype, a technique that uses photosensitive dye to create blue prints on paper or fabric when exposed to sunlight. They'll experiment with plants and objects to design their own layered compositions using light and shadow.
Priority booking for members.
This workshop led by Christie Swallow, one of the museum's Design Researchers in Residence, will introduce the history and process of Cyanotype as a photographic medium and its possibilities for art making. Inspired by a visit to our Dame Sylvia Crowe Garden, they will explore how design can work in harmony with nature.
During the day, participants will explore the possibilities of designing with sun and shadow to create cyanotype prints on paper and textile, presenting their work to the group. At the end of the workshop, participants will have unique cyanotype prints to take home.
Learning outcomes:
Working with the sun and natural dyes to create light sensitive compositions
Preparing and processing cyanotypes
Composition and collaging techniques
Creating sustainable artworks that are in harmony with Nature
Presenting and sharing the creative process with others
Please note:
