Design Museum Academy Adult Workshop
Workshop: Make a Felted Christmas Decoration
Inspired by the handmade puppets in Wes Anderson’s films and by Christmas decorations, create your own felted figure in this hands-on workshop. Moving away from ready-made kits, you’ll design and make your own figure using wool and scrap fabrics.
In this taster workshop, you’ll start by sketching your favourite animals or motifs, inspired by films like Isle of Dogs and Fantastic Mr Fox, or by your own pets or imagined characters. With basic technical drawing skills and guidance from the facilitator, you’ll translate your 2D design into a three-dimensional form.
Then comes the creative heart of the workshop: covering thin layers of natural wool and scrap fabric in a variety of colours, using needle felting techniques to bring your design to life.
Throughout the session, you’ll work at your own pace in a relaxed environment, receiving feedback and support as you work on your design. By the end of the session, you will have a unique, handmade felted creation to take home.
A visit to our exhibition, Wes Anderson: The Archives is included in your ticket price so you can visit at your own convenience before or after the workshop.
