Design Museum Academy Adult Workshop

Workshop: Introduction to Digital Fashion

Step into the world of digital fashion to create your own 3D outfit, customise your avatar and experiment with virtual design using the software CLO3D in this introductory workshop.

What to expect

Learn how to design a 3D outfit and digital garment and experiment with customising your avatar using CLO3D, an industry-standard software used by leading fashion houses and independent designers.

This is a beginner workshop, and no prior experience in fashion or 3D is required. You will work in a supportive, creative environment and receive plenty of step-by-step guidance.

Learn how to create digital patterns from scratch, stitch them together using virtual sewing tools, and simulate the garments directly onto a custom digital avatar. Using your own measurements, you will build and personalise your avatar, adjusting proportions, skin tone, hairstyle, and accessories to create a unique model.

This workshop is inspired by our exhibition Blitz: the club that shaped the 80s, drawing inspiration from the bold and expressive fashion of 1980s subcultures. You will explore creative garment shapes, fabric combinations, and make your own digital design choices. By the end of the session, you will have a high-quality rendered image of the final look for your portfolio, digital showcase or social media, and a digital guide to help you continue your learning journey and develop your personal project further.
