Design Museum Academy Children's Workshop

Design Camp: Strange Designs (Halloween) for 8 to 11 year olds

Inspired by spooky Halloween imagery and unusual objects from the museum’s handling collection, this workshop will encourage children to rethink, redesign and create their own designs that challenge convention.

What to expect

In this creative workshop, children will explore shape, form and design ideas by investigating the work of leading artists and designers and their sources of inspiration. They will study iconic product designs from our handling collection and spooky Halloween objects as points of reference for the creating their own eerie pieces.

Participants will be given a series of tasks and challenges to inspire creativity and to develop their own ideas and outcomes. They will use a variety of techniques including drawing, collage and 3D modelling using dry materials, to bring their own weird and wonderful designs and prototypes to life.

Learning outcomes:

  • Develop observational drawing skills

  • Develop creative thinking and idea development

  • Learn about leading artists and designers

  • Use different materials and techniques to create prototypes

Please note:

  • This workshop is suitable for children aged 8 to 11. All participants must be dropped off and picked up by an adult. You can find additional information in the sections below

  • Capacity is limited, we recommend booking early to avoid disappointment

  • All equipment and materials will be provided, but participants will need to bring a packed lunch
