Design Museum Academy Children's Workshop
Design Camp: Strange Designs for 8 to 11 year olds
Take inspiration from unusual designs from our handling collection to re-imagine everyday objects and create something uniquely strange!
What to expect
This workshop will explore shape, form and atypical design ideas referencing the work of leading artists and designers.
Participants will visit the museum’s permanent gallery and get a chance to study iconic items from our handling collection.
After a series of tasks and challenges to inspire creativity, they will develop their own ideas using a variety of techniques including drawing, collage and 3d modelling in dry materials to create weird and wonderful designs and prototypes.
Learning outcomes:
• Develop observational drawing skills
• Exercise creative thinking and idea development
• Learn about leading artists and designers
• Experiment with various materials and techniques to create prototypes

Sal Jones
Jones is an artist and art educator with a background in Fine Art painting, mixed media, and art and design education. She exhibits regularly in the UK, in selected group and solo shows and works as a freelance artist and educator in museums leading creative workshops. More about the artist

– All equipment, materials and light refreshments will be provided, but participants will need to bring a packed lunch.
– Please let us know of any access needs, including neurodiversity, when booking a place for your child. If your child receives additional support in their formal education setting, you are welcome to bring a carer/additional adult at no cost, but we are unable to provide 1:1 support.
