PLATFORM: Bethan Laura Wood

PLATFORM is part of the Design Museum’s exhibition and displays programme. Launched in 2025 it shows the broad reach of design in society and offers a unique opportunity for designers to share their work with the museum's visitors.

Every year, around the four walls of level 1, we will showcase the work of a designer or studio making an impact on contemporary design. These displays will open up a conversation about their practice and how and why they design, giving an insight into their studio and inspiring a new generation of designers.

These displays are always free and there is no need to book tickets.

The first PLATFORM display will showcase the work of multi-disciplinary designer, Bethan Laura Wood.

The world of designer Bethan Laura Wood is a sumptuous explosion of colour, pattern and texture. Her vibrant and varied work nods to different cultures and time periods, celebrating individuality and maximalism. Wood is passionate about collaboration and learning from artisans and specialist craftspeople, and her pieces prove that design can be decorative and fun yet functional.

Wood's interest of artistic movements, materials and other designers’ work steep her creations in meaning. Themes recur in her projects, blurring the boundaries between one collection and another. Whether subverting ideas about femininity and ornamentation, questioning our perception of reality in an increasingly digital world, or seeking to understand the connections we make with everyday objects, Wood's work invites us to look beyond the surface.

Over 70 objects will be on show — including some of Wood’s most eye-catching creations alongside brand-new work.
