Luxury brands are rapidly expanding in societies across the globe. With this expansion, luxury is becoming increasingly accessible and losing its exclusivity. But did exclusivity provide us with a more sustained model of consumption – producing less but for longer?
At a time when environmental, economic and social risks are increasing and our global resources under threat, questioning the concept of luxury feels more important than ever.
Chaired by curator and academic Jana Scholze, this talk brings together, designers and social thinkers for a discussion about luxury, design and sustainability.

Kate Davies
Kate Davies is an artist and architect. She is co-founder of nomadic design studio Unknown Fields, art practice LiquidFactory and field robotics group RAVEN.
Jonathan Faiers
Jonathan Faiers is Professor of Fashion Thinking, Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton. He lectures and publishes internationally on the interface between popular culture, fashion and luxury, edits the journal Luxury: History, Culture, Consumption and is a co-founder of the Winchester Luxury Research Group.

Jana Scholze
Jana Scholze is a design curator, critic and academic. She is Associate Professor at the Kingston School of Art and a Fellow at the Victoria and Albert Museum where she previously worked as a curator responsible for exhibitions such as 'What is Luxury?’. Her most recent publication is a monograph about the designers Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby.
