Learning Drop-in event and film screening
Garden Drop-in: London Climate Action Week
Explore the museum’s Dame Sylvia Crowe Garden, learn to do pollinator counts and wildlife observation with the Energy Garden team and enjoy a special screening of the documentary ‘Six Inches of Soil’.
This drop-in garden session invites you to join our volunteers in the Dame Sylvia Crowe Garden for a very special open afternoon, in celebration of London Climate Action Week.
This event is inspired by our upcoming exhibition More than Human, bringing together art, science and radical thinking to ask how design can help our planet thrive by shifting its focus beyond human needs.
Join us for a guided exploration of the garden and its design-based learning projects; learn the methodology to run pollinator counts in your garden and conduct wildlife observation with our friends from the Energy Garden; we will also be screening the documentary ‘Six Inches of Soil’, the inspiring story of British farmers standing up against the industrial food system and transforming the way they produce food - to heal the soil, benefit our health and provide for local communities.
Schedule:
14:00 Walkshop: discover the exciting projects taking place in the garden
14:20 Pollinator Count Workshop with the Energy Garden team
15:20 Screening of ‘Six Inches of Soil’ (96 minutes)

Dame Sylvia Crowe Garden
Initiated in partnership with the Design Age Institute in 2021, Growing Together explores design and horticulture as catalysts for positive social change and nurtures community connections in response to the planetary emergency.
'Growing Together' engages local residents to share stewardship of the Dame Sylvia Crowe garden at the Design Museum. The garden was named in memory of the pioneering landscape architect who designed the landscaping for the Commonwealth Institute in 1962.
Facilitator
Energy Garden is the world’s first citywide combined community energy and gardening project. By engaging with local communities, landowners and businesses, the project created a network of interconnected, community Energy Gardens at multiple rail stations across London’s Overground line.
