Sou Fujimoto: Futures of the Future

Renowned Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto discusses his work with the Guardian’s architecture and design critic Oliver Wainwright.

Sou Fujimoto is a leader among Japan’s new generation of architects. In this evening talk, Fujimoto will discuss his philosophy of designing structures that connect nature with architecture and the possibilities of architecture in the future.

In conversation with the Guardian’s architecture and design critic Oliver Wainwright, Fujimoto will revisit several of his well-known projects including; the 2013 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion, House NA (2011), Musashino Art University Museum & Library (2010), Final Wooden House (2008) and House N (2008).

This talk has been programmed in conjunction with SOU FUJIMOTO: FUTURES OF THE FUTURE, an exhibition at Japan House London, held in collaboration with TOTO GALLERY・MA, Tokyo.

Sou Fujimoto

Born in Hokkaido in 1971, a graduate of the University of Tokyo, Department of Architecture, Sou Fujimoto established Sou Fujimoto Architects in 2000. Among some of his most notable works include Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2013, House NA (2011), Musashino Art University Museum & Library (2010), Final Wooden House (2008) and House N (2008).

Oliver Wainwright

Oliver Wainwright is the architecture and design critic of the Guardian. He trained as an architect at the University of Cambridge and the Royal College of Art, and worked at OMA in Rotterdam and for the Mayor of London's Architecture and Urbanism Unit. He is a regular visiting critic and lecturer at architecture schools internationally.
