Future Fossil: Workshop
Create a terrarium of the future using living and man-made materials with art and architecture collective Something & Son and material teller, Yesenia Thibault-Picazo.
We know that humans have profoundly changed the world we inhabit, shaping nature to suit our needs. How can design enable us to live in harmony with nature and to create an environment where the natural and man-made have merged?
This workshop invites you to create your own terrarium of the future: a micro-ecosystem inspired by the past and future of London. Over the course of the day you will explore the surroundings of the Design Museum, observing the richness of nature in the urban environment and collect materials, native plants and narratives. You will also manufacture a miniature architectural model, made of an imaginary future rock of London, and be introduced to new recycled materials and casting processes.
Drawing on current research and live projects by Something & Son and Yesenia Thibault-Picazo, this workshop will inspire you to imagine new relationships with nature and the city for a sustainable ecological future.

Speakers
Something & Son is a collaborative and activist led collective working across art, design and architecture creating diverse work that is socially and environmentally driven. Their work tours galleries and art festivals, though the majority of work engages in real-life public projects in abandoned buildings or on the street.
Yesenia Thibault-Picazo defines herself as a ‘Material Teller’. Her practice sits at the junction between craft practices and environmental concerns. Thibault-Picazo suggests what mined materials might be used by our descendants, in the far future.
