Friday Night Sketch | #madein1989
A free drop-in evening of drawing throughout the museum on the museum’s Friday Late Opening.
MOO is an online print and design company headquartered in London, England. Passionate about great design and the difference it can make to the world, MOO offers a variety of premium print products including business cards, postcards, notebooks and more. With six locations across the United Kingdom and United States, MOO serves over 190 countries and was founded in 2006 by CEO and Founder, Richard Moross MBE.
During the first Friday of each month, a professional designer or illustrator sets a sketching task inspired by the museum’s permanent collection or most recent exhibition. Participants are then invited to tour the museum and sketch what excites them about contemporary design and architecture, before sharing their finished work at the end of the evening.
This month’s sketch celebrates 30 years since the Design Museum first opened it's doors in 1989. Led by illustrator Nicolas Burrows, the event will begin with a short presentation by Nicolas on his work and approach to illustration using anthropomorphism. You are then invited to explore the Design Museum’s galleries and permanent collection to discover design classic objects from the last 30 years and use them as inspiration to create a series of drawings, turning them into characters and human figures. All drawing abilities are welcome.
With thanks to MOO, the first 100 people to sign up for the evening will receive complimentary MOO products to sketch on and the opportunity to join a 15-minute workshop at the start of the evening.
Nicolas Burrows is an artist, illustrator and musician and a member of illustration collective Nous Vous. He works primarily with collage, creating abstract and figurative compositions influenced by outsider art and modernist design.
