Kensington Architecture: Power and Wealth Walk
From its beginnings as an Anglo-Saxon manor plot granted by William the Conqueror to one of his inner circle, to the creation of the new Design Museum in Holland Park, Kensington has long been associated with style, glamour and displays of wealth. To coincide with Life on Foot: Camper at the Design Museum, this walking tour will explore the design of Kensington Palace, the new Design Museum and neighbouring buildings.

Ticket includes complimentary entry to Kensington Palace and the Life on Foot: Camper at the Design Museum exhibition. Walk begins at King’s Arms Gates, Kensington Gardens (off Kensington High St) and ends at Kensington High St (Holland Park end). This walking tour will explore the building designs of Kensington Palace, Billionaire’s Row and explore how the geography, history and style of the area have developed. Plus you’ll get a site tour of the outside of the new Design Museum site at the former Commonwealth Institute, which opens in 2016 from John Pawson Architects.
The walk will last two hours and will place the walker at the heart of a conversation between these two institutions which are linked historically through the Queen Victoria and the Imperial Institute and through their unique connections with art and design in the local area. Walkers can expect to receive maps, postcards and a lot of new anecdotes.
