Lisa Folawiyo Spring/Summer 2018 collection

Lisa Folawiyo’s brightly coloured patterned textiles are exclusively made of traditional wax-print textiles, derived from a Dutch process but made in West Africa.

The fabric goes through resin-resist dying, and is then block-printed, adorning the bleached cotton with jewel-toned motifs on both sides.

Folawiyo is part of a generation of Nigerian designers modernising a fabric that she notes her ‘mothers, grandmothers and probably great-grandmothers’ have worn, while paying it delicate homage.
