What to expect

Plastics are a modern marvel. They have been instrumental in improving healthcare and have made basic goods available to greater numbers of people at an affordable price. Despite this, plastics are also responsible for some of the most urgent social and environmental challenges we face today. What if we could create new plastics from renewable materials that bio-degrade when we no longer need them?

In this hands-on workshop, led by Ian Hunter, Director of the Materials Council, you will learn how to make your own bio-plastics from everyday ingredients, before using these to create a series of objects to take away with you at the end of the session. You will also gain a deeper understanding of the potential commercial uses of these materials, and the ethical and environmental benefits associated with them.

All materials are provided, and no prior experience is necessary.
