Learning event Speed Mentoring Session

Ardagh Young Creatives x  Design Can

Are you aged between 14 and 25 years old and interested in design?

Join this free mentoring and career guidance event for young people, where you can network, meet inspiring designers and creatives from across the industry, and connect with peers.

You'll have the chance to ask questions and learn more about different creative career paths and what it’s like to work in design.

We will give you the tools for conversation, and you don't need any prior experience. You will leave inspired and with a host of new connections.

What to expect

Join this free event, organised by the Design Museum's Ardagh Young Creatives and Design Can, to meet professionals working in the realms of design including architecture, photography, engineering, art direction, graphic design, curation, fashion, and more.

Part 1: EXPLORING CAREERS
You’ll start the day with other attendees so you can meet other friendly emerging creatives. You’ll be guided to explore your pathways into design, whether you’re at the beginning of your career, or more sure about the direction you want to follow, with key questions to help you get the most out of the session.

Part 2: PRESENTATIONS AND MENTORING
You'll watch a presentation from each mentor and get to know more about their professional journey and design practice. The presentations will be followed by a speed mentoring session where each participant will have approximately 5 minutes with each mentor. You’ll be able to chat with the mentors individually or in pairs.

Part 3: REFLECTING AND RELAXING
The final section of this event will give you a chance to reflect, relax and continue conversations with mentors and peers, or let your mind rest. You’ll leave the event with a refreshed list of new contacts and ideas to progress your creative career.

PLEASE BOOK IN ADVANCE
The event is free, but you must book a ticket. Groups are welcome, but the booking form needs to be filled out per each person. More information on how to book can be found below.

Why are we offering this event?

We believe the design world isn't as diverse as it could be, and we want to make a positive change. This opportunity welcomes young people of colour, those with a neurodivergence or disability, those who access free school meal or pupil premium (or have done in the past), young carers, and those who are care experiences/care leavers. We also encourage you to attend this event if you feel you identify with a marginalised group.

If you have any additional needs and would like to attend, please contact youngcreatives@designmuseum.org with questions or comments.

This event is delivered in collaboration with Design Can, a non–profit that is helping shift the power balance in the creative industry to be more inclusive and representative. Design Can calls on anyone connected to the industry to confront prejudice, eliminate discrimination and champion representation. Read their manifesto here.
