A Next Generation

A New Now Next panel discussion curated by the Irish Architecture Foundation, sponsored by Arup and hosted at the Design Museum to coincide with Irish Design 2015’s Nine Lives installation in the Tank. The discussion features leading Irish architects Clancy Moore, Hall McKnight, Steve Larkin and TAKA and is introduced by Oliver Wainwright, Architecture and Design critic for the Guardian.

Tickets include entry to the Designs of the Year exhibition before the talk begins. Doors will open at 18:15. The Designs of the Year exhibition will be open for ticket holders to view between 18.15 and 18:45, and will then close. The talk will start at 18:45 and will last until 20:30.

What's the talk about?

New Now Next is an ongoing series of talks in Dublin curated by the Irish Architecture Foundation and sponsored by Arup. The series brings to an audience the most innovative architects and ideas and we are delighted to give the IAF initiative a platform at Design Museum during the London Festival of Architecture. The four practices on stage form part of an outdoor site specific installation in Kings Cross called New Horizon, which is being developed as part of Irish Design 2015. New Now Next is an opportunity to hear about they way in which each has found a way to practice critically, to collaborate across disciplines and evolve new modes of practice that define 21st Century Irish architecture. The scope of the work of each practice is both Irish and conscious of a global design culture.

Oliver Wainwright

Oliver Wainwright is the architecture and design critic of the Guardian. He trained as an architect at the University of Cambridge and the Royal College of Art, and has worked in a number of practices, including OMA, muf, and the Architecture and Urbanism Unit of the Greater London Authority. He has written extensively on architecture and design for a wide range of international publications, from Building Design and the Architects' Journal, to Icon, Domus and Frieze.

TAKA

TAKA is an architectural practice based in Dublin, Ireland whose practice is focused on creating buildings, places and moments which have a distinct character. An emerging practice, their continuing level of excellence in the built work of the practice is recognized by multiple national and international awards and worldwide publication.

Clancy Moore

Clancy Moore Established by Andrew Clancy and Colm Moore in 2007 Clancy Moore Architects is a practice dedicated to creating beautiful spaces and objects through an open and collaborative process with clients and craftspeople. The practice won the RIAI award for Best House and the AAI Downes Medal in 2013.

Hall McKnight

Hall McKnight is an architectural practice based in Belfast. In addition to receiving a number of RIBA Awards, the work of the practice has been recognised with success in International Design Contests, notably the MAC Arts Centre, completed and Vartov Square Copenhagen. Hall McKnight were announced as the winners of the RIBA design contest for the Quadrangle Building at King’s College London. The practice’s work has been nominated for the BSI Swiss Architectural Award, the European Union Mies Van der Rohe Award, the European Public Space Awards and the Design Museum ‘Designs of the Year’. In 2013 the practice received the Downes Medal, awarded by the Architectural Association of Ireland for the MAC.

Steve Larkin

Steve Larkin is a musician and architect. He studied architecture at University College Dublin and graduated in 2002. He established Steve Larkin Architects in 2007. Since then the practice has been the recipient of a number of national and international awards and commendations. Steve is currently a Senior Lecturer (Education) at Queens University Belfast and Studio Tutor at the Dublin Institute of Technology. He is a guest critic in a number of universities in Ireland and the UK. The practice was nominated for the Mies van der Rohe European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture in 2013.
