Terms and Conditions: Young Creatives
Dear Young person/ Parent/ Legal Guardian,
You or your young person has expressed an interest in joining the Young Creatives Programme. Before we can officially welcome a young person to the programme, we must ask the parental/guardian for consent if under 18 years of age and that all parents/guardians/young people read the terms and conditions of participation before signing-up.
Young Creatives is open to any young person, aged between 14-19 years, interested in working as a team and developing their skills through design. No experience of design is needed to take part. The programme aims to be a creative hub for young people. It will focus on facilitated creative projects and activities embed with principles of design process and practice, including public-facing community engagement. The Young Creatives programme is an opportunity for the Design Museum to collaborate with, and develop, a long-term relationship with this audience.
Every young creative signed up to the programme commits to taking part in its programme of free workshops, courses and planning sessions. Throughout the year young creatives will meet and work alongside designer Haidée Drew to look afresh at the world around them, taking inspiration from the museum exhibitions and its local community, culminating with an end of year celebration and showcase designed and delivered by the young creatives group and supported by the Design Museum.
Young people take part with the commitment to participate in all activities as a team, commit to attending regularly throughout the year, helping to develop ideas together and to work with specialists to shape the programme as it develops.
Masterclasses

In response to the group feedback, these design and make masterclasses will be a chance for the young creatives to respond to a series of design briefs using skills gained from the summer school and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing.
Summer School
Monday 5 – Wednesday 7 August 2019
10:30 – 15:30 each day
Design Museum, Creative Workshop – Level 1
Skills building masterclasses lead by industry experts exploring graphic design and print, model-making and prototyping, digital and craft.
These will be standalone sessions. Additional masterclass days on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 August are to be confirmed.
End of year celebration and public event

Design Museum, Creative Workshop – Level 1
A showcase of work produced by the group. Young Creatives will plan and deliver this end of year celebration and showcase. Details for this event will develop across the year.
We would like to communicate with Young Creatives any related events and meeting details via social media, mobile and email. We will also invite Young Creatives to use the Design Museum social media channels to showcase and share the programme with the museum’s wider audience.
You may be aware of some of the risks to young people connected with using new technologies. The Design Museum and its staff will do everything in their ability to retain the confidentiality of Young Creatives’ personal details. As a reminder we ask you to be aware of and/or alert your young person to the following general guidance as regards to behaviour and access to new technologies:
•Do not publish any sensitive or personal information (including images) of yourself which you may regret at a later stage, which may cause offence or provoke any unwanted attention
•Do not befriend anyone you do not know (in person or otherwise), or who may pose a risk to your health and safety
•Do be pleasant to your friends and peers online. If you suspect any bullying or offensive behaviour please seek advice from your teacher, parent, or a member of the Design Museum staff.
Young Creatives will be photographed during activities and images used to promote future museum programmes online and in print. Individuals first name’s will be used on occasions where required for press, marketing and communications.
Photographs and film will be used by the Design Museum for Design Museum press and marketing purposes, and on the Design Museum website at www.designmuseum.org.
There may be some trips arranged by the Design Museum to other cultural venues, design studios or similar and for the summer school project. Consent forms for Young Creatives under the age of 18 years will be provided for completion before each visit/off-site activity.
All activities will be delivered with due care and attention to safety. Staff will provide safety briefings at the start of activities and it is required that young creatives take appropriate care and attention as instructed by staff. Young creatives must notify staff should they have any concerns during activities.
For the purpose of supporting young creatives and to maximise their participation in the programme, please inform the Design Museum if you feel its staff need to be notified of any health concerns, or learning support required, prior to participation. We will do our best within our resources to support additional needs and the safety of all young creatives.
Young creatives are not the responsibility of Design Museum staff outside of the dedicated activity venue. They are responsible for their own safety and well-being at all times. Young creatives must ensure safe and suitable arrangement for arrival and departure to and from the programme have been made with their parent/legal guardian.
Young creatives may only leave the venue during lunch and breaks if permission has been granted by their parent/legal guardian through the online permission form.
It is expected that all young creatives will respect each other at all times, establishing good team work practice and supporting each other during activities.
There is an expectation that young creatives will commit to attending regular Sunday sessions, the summer school and the final showcase event.
On projects with limited places, participants will be accepted on a first come first served basis via an online sign-up process such as Doodle forms.
Young creatives aged 17 years and under will be asked to gain written consent from their parent/legal guardian to attend external visits/off-site activity.
If a young creative is unable to attend a session at any time, they MUST notify the Design Museum as soon as possible by emailing youngcreatives@designmuseum.org
Should a young creative no longer wish to participate in the programme, they MUST inform the Design Museum in writing by email or letter to youngcreatives@designmuseum.org
Should a young creative wish to continue engaging with the wider Design Museum programme, they can be given guidance in accessing other opportunities. Please speak to the Programme Producer: Young Audiences for information.
Young Creatives will have the opportunity to take part in the Bronze Arts Award, working towards achieving their certificate as part of the programme. Minimum time commitments do apply and further details will be provided. Arts Award guidance will be given throughout the programme, and it will be the responsibility of the young person to complete their work for assessment by February 2020.

If you are aged 17 years and under, a parent or legal guardian's permission is required.
After submission of the form, you will be contacted by the Design Museum to confirm your place. Every young creative will be added to a group email list to receive regular e-newsletters with programme information and up-coming event details.
It is the responsibility of the young creative to ensure they remember session dates as per the above timeline, and contact the museum if they have any questions.
