Explore sustainable design through the lens of the sneaker industry with trainer designer Helen Kirkum.

What to expect

Join renowned sneaker designer Helen Kirkum to learn how she uses recycled materials, unique techniques and inspirations to design trainers.

Get hands-on and create a 3D sneaker concept using household recycling and deconstructed pre-loved trainers and learn how contrasting textures and materials can be used to produce new forms. End the day by creating miniature versions of Helen’s creations in the form of sneaker keychains.

This workshop is suitable for beginners. All materials for the workshop are provided.

Helen Kirkum

Helen Kirkum is an Artist and Designer whose reworking of recycled sneakers has revolutionised the craftsmanship of handmade footwear, creating wearable couture collages from discarded sneakers. Kirkum is a pioneer of the patchwork aesthetic within the sneaker industry, and her collaborators include Adidas, Melissa, Bethany Williams and Reebok.
