CPD: From concept to prototype

One-day residential developing and applying new ideas in design. Get techniques to support and inspire your students throughout the design process at this one-day residential, brought to you by the University of the Arts London Awarding Body and the Design Museum.

From the initial concept stage through to prototyping, we’ll explore techniques to help your students to develop and communicate their design ideas effectively. Useful for research and evidence criteria required on most specifications.

Facilitators including Nick Rhodes (Programme Leader, Central Saint Martins) and Caren Hartley (bespoke bike frame designer and exhibitor in Design Museum’s Cycle Revolution) will use a combination of theoretical and practical teaching to help you to raise student ambition back in the classroom.

Caren Hartley is one the five British bike frame designers featured in Cycle Revolution at the Design Museum. The exhibition celebrates the diversity of contemporary cycling in Britain from every day commuting to Olympic level competition and looks at where design and innovation may take the riders of the future.

The residential will cover brief setting, prototyping, group critique and embedding functional skills into design teaching. Participants will also have the opportunity to tour the Design Museum’s three innovative exhibitions - Cycle Revolution, Designs of the Year and Designers in Residence - plus receive exclusive tutor and learner resources.
