Grenfell Inspired Art
Join the Design Museum for a screening of a new film by the West London director JC Kamau, on Saturday 4 August and Tuesday 7 August, documenting the artistic response to the Grenfell Tower fire tragedy.
What to expect
Following the Grenfell Tower fire in June 2017, the North Kensington community was left mourning. In response to the tragedy and the rise in anger and distrust across the city due to the injustice perpetrated by the government, a community of local artists came together to help the area heal.
From posters and graffiti murals, to green hearts and poems, the work produced by these creatives has instilled hope among local residents, and transformed their urban landscape into something uplifting.
This film documents JC Kamau's quest to find out why and how these people developed such meaningful works of art that have inspired and empowered a community in need of a mental and physical change of fortune.

Speakers
JC Kamau
JC Kamau is an actor, poet, writer, presenter and director from West London. His one-man comedy play The Mental Retreat was performed at the Camden Roundhouse (2012), The Tabernacle (2013) & Chelsea Theatre (2014). Kamau was invited by the V&A to perform a Monologue for the Martin Luther King tribute programme in 2013. He is a Radio Presenter for Flava radio where has runs his weekly show the eclectic sports selection.
