The integration of new digital tools and techniques with traditional craft processes is transforming the process of making and creating new outlets for creative expression.
To mark London Craft Week 2019, the Design Museum has teamed up with Today at Apple for a discussion exploring ground breaking developments in digital craft.
Designers Yinka Illori, Natsai Audrey Chieza, Lucy Hardcastle and Jessica Pile (Hand & Lock) will reveal how their work is challenging traditional craft practice and speculate on important trends and developments likely to emerge in the future.
Key topics include: digital embroidery, biotechnology, and storytelling for a digital age.
This talk forms part of a programme of events led by Today at Apple for London Craft Week 2019, exploring the intersection of craft and technology with emerging and established designers and makers.

Oli Stratford has been the editor-in-chief of Disegno since September 2016, having previously served as the journal’s online and deputy editor. Outside of Disegno, examples of his journalism, interviews, essays and fiction may be read in books published by König Books and Gestalten among others.
Speakers
London-based artist Yinka Ilori specialises in telling stories through furniture, inspired by the traditional Nigerian parables and African fabrics that surrounded him as a child. Bringing Nigerian verbal traditional into playful conversation with contemporary design, Yinka Ilori’s work touches on various global themes that resonate with different audiences all over the world.
Lucy Hardcastle is an interdisciplinary designer and digital artist living in London. Her work focuses on tactility, visual illusions and sensual aesthetics through digital rendered pieces, sculpture, set design and moving image. Her current projects aim to bridge the highly digital and physical aspects of her practice to produce immersive experiential pieces.
Natsai Audrey Chieza is a leading designer, change-maker, and TED speaker working at the intersection of design, biology and technology. She is Founder and Director of Faber Futures, a design research lab that develops tools, methods and frameworks for design-driven biofabrication for the circular economy.
Jessica Pile is the Production Director at Hand & Lock, London’s premier embroidery house providing embellishment services to the Royal Family, top European design houses, the Royal Armed Forces, Savile Row and members of the public. In their atelier, they offer a range of services from hand monograms and bridal customisation to goldwork blazer badges and machine embroidered logos.
