London School of Architecture Show & Tell: Crafting the City
The London School of Architecture kick off their programme at the museum with leading urbanists Deborah Saunt and David West. Along with Tom Holbrook and Will Hunter they discuss different approaches to the crafting of cities.
Tickets include entry to the Designs of the Year exhibition before the talk begins. Doors will open at 18:15. The Designs of the Year exhibition will be open for ticket holders to view between 18:15 and 19:00, and will then close. The talk will start at 19:00 and last for 1 hour 30 minutes.
The London School of Architecture’s monthly Show and Tell asks leading figures to give an insight in to how they design. For October, architect and urbanist Deborah Saunt (DSDHA) and planner David West (Studio Egret West) take on the crafting of cities. Tom Holbrook (5th Studio) joins them for a panel discussion, chaired by London School of Architecture Director Will Hunter.

Deborah Saunt is the co-founder of the award-winning architecture and urban design studio DSDHA. High-profile projects include Christ’s College School, Guildford which was shortlisted for the Stirling Prize, a gateway building for the London 2012 Athletes Village and the redesign of the public realm around Tottenham Court Road. Deborah has taught extensively in the UK and internationally, and leads the innovative Practice-led Research agenda at the LSA. She holds a PhD in Architecture and is a Built Environment Fellow of the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851.
David is a Planner and Urban Designer specialising in ‘Urban Visions and Strategic Framework plans’. West is the former director of the ‘BIG Architecture’ group and set up Studio Egret West with Christophe Egret in 2004. He has led the practice’s work for a new sustainable community around Middlehaven Docks in Middlesbrough, a one-million sqm masterplan for St Petersburg Railway Lands, the masterplan for Nottingham Science Park and the strategic framework plans for Maze Long Kesh in Belfast.
Dr Tom Holbrook co-founded 5th Studio in 1997 as a spatial design agency, working across the fields of architecture, urban design, infrastructure and landscape. He is Professor of Architecture at RMIT University, exploring comparative urbanism in Barcelona, Melbourne and Ho Chi Minh City. Tom leads the urban studies programme at the London School of Architecture and his research explores the dynamic between architecture and the scale of infrastructure and landscape.
Will Hunter is the Founder and Director of the London School of Architecture. He trained as an architect at the Bartlett, UCL and at the Royal College of Art. He was previously the executive editor of The Architectural Review and editor of the monthly magazines of The Architects’ Journal and Building Design.
