Are you interested in gardening, nature and design?

We are currently looking for Gardening Volunteers. Applications to join the Design Museum's Growing Together garden project are open until Sunday 26 January 2026. Scroll down to find out more and how to apply.

About Growing Together

Growing Together is a project that explores the intersections of nature and design, located at the Dame Silvia Crowe Garden at the Design Museum. Our intergenerational cohort of volunteers co-stewards this green space, activating it through regular gardening and maintenance, supporting design research projects, co-hosting learning and community events and more.

Join our Gardening Volunteer Cohort

This January, we are recruiting new volunteers to join our friendly group. We welcome applications from everyone, and we encourage applications from adults who:

  • Live locally or in the museum’s surrounding boroughs
  • Don’t have a garden at home
  • Are new to London
  • Are experiencing loneliness or isolation

Gardening experience is not essential – we are looking for curious, kind and those with initiative and a collaborative team spirit.

As a gardening volunteer, you will:

  • Perform gardening tasks every other Tuesday afternoon with the group, with the guidance of our Urban Gardener and Assistant Curator of Public Practice

  • Become a co-host for seasonal learning and community events in the garden

  • Get involved in supporting design research projects in the garden

  • Join learning visits to other gardens and green spaces across London with the group.

What the museum offers:

  • Reimbursement of out-of-pocket travel expenses up to £8 per session

  • Access to Design Museum exhibitions free-of-charge

  • Free tickets, subject to availability, to our events and talks

  • Discounted or free access to partner cultural institutions
