Frequently asked questions

To help plan your visit to the Design Museum, please see answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.

What time should I arrive?

You should aim to arrive 10 minutes prior to the 15 minute time slot you have booked. The exhibition is very popular, at very busy times you may be asked by staff to wait before entering to allow everyone a comfortable experience.

If you think you will be late for your allocated time slot please speak to a member of staff on site who will do their best to admit you as soon as possible. You do not need to contact the Museum in advance to do this. Please note that the Design Museum cannot guarantee that this will be possible.

Will I need to queue even if I booked a time slot?

The exhibition is very popular and the time visitors spend in it varies. Capacity is being managed to offer the best possible experience. This means you might need to queue between 15 and 45 minutes, depending on which time slots are most popular on the day. The museum Visitor Experience team will have the most up to date information and are always happy to help once you reach the venue.

Should I book a time slot online if I am a Member?

If you have a Design Museum membership you do not need to book a time slot online. You can just turn up and access the exhibition at any time, even when it's sold out. You might have to wait for the next available time slot when it's particularly busy, which is every 15 minutes.

I have a 10:00-17:00 or gift ticket purchased through the Design Museum, Time Out, TripAdvisor or See Tickets. How can I book a time slot?

You do not need to book a time slot in advance – your ticket is valid for the entirety of the day for which it is booked, up until last entry. You can arrive at any time and you will be able to access the gallery at the next available time slot.

What is the average time visitors spend in the exhibition?

On average, visitors have been spending between 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours inside the exhibition. However, the visit can even take longer, depending on the level of detail you wish to explore. Please take this into consideration when booking your time slot, as final admission time is 16:30 and the gallery closes at 18:00 (apart from on the first Friday of the month, when it closes at 20:00 or 21:00 - see details on the museum's Lates page)

Can I change the date of my tickets?

If you'd like to postpone your exhibition ticket for another date, please contact bookings@designmuseum.org (Mon - Fri 10;00 to 17:00) or call +44 20 3862 5937, stating a new preferred date and time for your visit, and quoting your booking reference number.

Please note that the Bookings Office is unable to guarantee exchanges of tickets, particularly once the date for which the tickets were originally booked has passed. No refunds will be made during the final two weeks of the exhibition.

If you purchased your ticket through a third-party seller (Time Out, TripAdvisor, or See Tickets) please contact them directly to request an exchange.

Can I bring children into the gallery?

Age guidance for the exhibition is 12+. However, please note that some of the exhibition film rooms contain scenes of an adult nature and are not suitable for those below the age of 18. The choice to visit with children is at parents' or guardians’ discretion. No children accompanied by an adult or guardian aged 18 or above will be disallowed from entering the gallery.

Please note that you do not need to book tickets for children aged five or below. Buggies and prams are permitted into the gallery.
