Apply for Designers in Residence 2017

Applications are now open for the 2017 Designer in Residence programme. This is an exciting opportunity to be one of the first designers to work in the designated studio situated within the new Design Museum in Kensington.

More information

This residency accommodates four designers to work independently on a project in response to a theme. Designers from different disciplines are selected and work autonomously as well as come together to exchange and share skills and ideas. Visitors are invited to engage in the process on display and to interact with the designers to gain an in depth insight into the development of a project and the journey from concept to output.

The annual programme promotes new and emerging design talent. It’s open to all designers who have graduated from Higher Education within the last five years (in the academic year 2012/13 or more recently) and who have been working professionally (either paid or voluntarily) in some form of design or architecture practice for a minimum of one year.

2017 theme

This year's theme is 'SUPPORT'

The Design Museum is looking for designers who demonstrate originality, be it through technology or an innovative approach to practice, through new ways of thinking, doing and making. As a Designer in Residence you will show initiative and awareness of broader debates that touch on design, whether economic, ethical or social issues, whilst setting the agenda for the future of design.
