Print Matters: Creative Publishing for DIY Media

Make your own creative publication using riso-printing in this two-day workshop with publishing collective OOMK.

What to expect

Print Matters is a two-day creative publication making session with Rose Nordin and Sofia Niazi from OOMK (One of My Kind) Publishing Collective. Inspired by the ways our trust in graphic media and news has changed in recent years, participants will be involved in creating and riso-printing their own collaborative newspaper.

The first day of the workshop will introduce different practices and approaches to creative publishing through short presentations, discussions and a tour of the Design Museum’s current exhibition Hope to Nope: Graphics and Politics 2008-18. Using archival imagery, found newspapers and illustration, participants will then design their own spreads for risograph printing.

The second day of the workshop will take place at the Rabbit’s Road Print Studio in Newham, East London, starting with an introduction to the risograph printing process. Employing typographic, printing and critical skills, the remainder of the session will be spent producing a stack of reality shifting newspapers to keep and distribute.
