Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C.

Occupying one of the last undeveloped sites on the National Mall, the museum opened after decades of efforts to commemorate African American history that date back to a campaign over 100 years ago led by black veterans of the Civil War. The design takes its cues from both African and American histories of craftsmanship.
