'The purest, simplest kind of bicycle is the fixed-gear bicycle. Riding a fixed gear will make you a stronger, smoother cyclist...and it is a ton of fun!'
Sheldon Brown

Curated by Ben Wilson, industrial designer and bike fanatic, FIXED looked at the fixed gear bicycle from 1888 to 2007. FIXED was in the Tank, the museum's riverfront exhibition space and free to view day or night.

Riding ‘fixed’ is thought to be a ‘pure’ way to interact with your bike, no brakes, no gears - just you and the bike. Fixed gear bikes do not allow coasting, so the only way to rest at any point is to pedal slower.

With special thanks to Marcus Hirst and Jeremy Buckland.
