What to expect

This second edition of ‘How to design a design museum’ brings together the ideas, originality and design thinking that helped transform the new Design Museum.

Meet the creative genuises behind the new Design Museum's opening exhibitions OK-RM and Studio Hato, who designed the Fear and Love: Reactions to a Complex World and Beazley Designs of the Year exhibitions and advertising campaigns respectively. There will also be a chance to hear from Fernando Gutierrez who ushered the museum through a rebrand in its year of re-opening. Design impresario Ian Cartlidge will be on hand to guide you through the magic of wayfinding. You will also hear from Morag Myerscough whose signature design style underpins the museum’s new permanent display Designer Maker User

The talks will be introduced by Owen Pritchard, Editor of It's Nice That.

Oliver Knight

Oliver Knight is the co-founder of OK-RM, a renowned London based design studio specialising in graphic design and art-direction. Clients and commissioners, including The Met, Guggenheim, the Design Museum and REAL Foundation, work with the studio to create culturally authentic work that not only communicates who they are but clarifies what they are.

Fernando Gutiérrez

Fernando Gutiérrez founded Studio Fernando Gutiérrez, a design studio that specialises in identity, editorial, exhibition, packaging, signage and digital design. Fernando has worked with clients in the UK, Spain and Italy including El Pais, Matador, Colors, The Prado Museum, Tate Modern, the V&A and the Design Museum.

Ian Cartlidge

Ian Cartlidge founded the London-based design studio Cartlidge Levene in 1987, specialising in the creation of identity and visual language. Their most significant projects include the new Tate Modern, the Barbican Centre, Guardian News and Media and Royal College of Art. Ian was awarded the distinction of Royal Designer for Industry (RDI) in 2013 by the RSA.

Morag Myerscough

Morag Myerscough’s work is characterised by creating specific, local responses to each distinct audience. Her installations with Luke Morgan have won many awards including being part of the team who won the RIBA Stirling Prize for Architecture. Morag has been listed for two years in Debrett’s 500: Britain’s most influential people 2014/2015: Architecture and Design.

Ken Kirton

Ken Kirton is the co-founder and creative director of Hato. Their long-standing collaborative approach has seen the team expand and the scope of services today includes offering design services for the likes of Wellcome Collection, Tate, Somerset House, Uniqlo, It’s Nice That, Facebook and the British Council.
