What to expect?
Four speakers tackle a curious range of subjects with remarkable results including Javed Khan, CEO of Barnardo’s, on love; Mark Breeze, architect, on designing new homes for refugees, Astrid Alben, founder of the PARS foundation, on light and Daniel Hahn on what makes a good book.

Javed Khan
Javed Khan is a leading figure in the public and voluntary sectors. Currently Chief Executive of Barnardo’s, the UK’s largest and oldest children’s charity, he was previously he was CEO at Victim Support and before that a teacher and civil servant.
Mark Breeze
Mark Breeze is an architect, film-maker and academic who has worked across the world, and has recently begun work on a project studying the ‘Architectures of Displacement’.
Astrid Alben
Astrid Alben is a poet and translator, and co-founder of the arts and science organisation PARS, which aims to simulate curiosity and celebrate beauty in knowledge.
Daniel Hahn
Daniel Hahn is an author, translator and reviewer. He edited the Oxford Companion to Children’s Literature and is a judge of this year’s Man Booker International Prize.
