CURATOR | PERMANENT COLLECTION DISPLAY

In 2015 the museum will move to the former Commonwealth Institute on Kensington High Street, giving the museum three times more space, much improved learning facilities and a dedicated space in which to display the museum’s permanent collection. The new Design Museum will be an international showcase for the many creative design skills at which Britain excels. It takes an international perspective on design and will give the museum the opportunity to broaden its appeal and reach a wider audience.

The Curator will play a key role in delivering an exciting new permanent display at the new Design Museum and managing the museum’s collection in readiness for the move to Kensington High Street. They will be a significant and effective advocate for the collection at the Design Museum. This role will suit a selfsufficient and confident individual with excellent project management skills. Support on project delivery will provided by the Programme Project Manager

Reports to: Deputy Director
Hours: 40 hours per week
3 year contract post
Salary: £30,000-£34,000 based on experience

PROJECT DIRECTOR

In 2015 the museum will move to the former Commonwealth Institute a Grade 2* listed building on Kensington High Street, giving the museum three times more space, much improved learning facilities and a dedicated space in which to display the museum’s permanent collection.The scheme forms part of a larger development being carried out by Chelsfield to build three luxury apartment blocks designed by OMA, set in a landscape designed by West 8. After completion of preparatory work now under way in a contract run by Chelsfield, the museum expects to begin work in 2014 on a fit out designed by John Pawson. The new Design Museum will be an international showcase for the many creative design skills at which Britain excels. It will give the museum the opportunity to broaden its appeal and reach a wider audience.

The challenge over the next three years will be to run existing operations at Shad Thames, deliver an exciting new building and create a new Design Museum with significantly scaled up capabilities and ambitions.
The Project Director will play a key role in delivering a building of the highest architectural quality and creating a new Design Museum with significantly scaled up capabilities and ambitions. This is a significant challenge – financially and operationally.

The Project Director will provide essential coordination between the museum internal teams, the external Project Managers (G&T) and design team. S/he will ensure the project achieves the museum’s ambitions, on time and on budget. The Project Director will report regularly to the Project Delivery Committee of the museum’s trustees who have oversight of the scheme.

MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

The role of Membership Development Officer is to successfully manage the Individual Membership scheme at the Design Museum, ensuring high levels of member retention and new sales and to undertake all related marketing, servicing, events and promotional activities. You will be confident with direct selling and able to inspire others to both sell and upsell. You will enjoy working in a customer service based role where interacting with the public is key. You will have a proven track record in delivering against financial targets as well as having excellent literacy and numeracy skills.

Hours: Annualised hours contract 1248 hours per annum
(Normally 3 days per week including 1 weekend day)
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £14,000
Annual Leave: 15 days per annum
