Join a panel of industry experts as they discuss how designers are responding to the decline in home ownership in ‘generation rent ’. In collaboration with IKEA.
Soaring house prices and stagnant wages put the dream of owning a home out of reach for many people, especially the young. Recent reports show that London will become a city of renters by 2025. How are designers responding to the new renting market?
‘Generation rent’ has put up with sub-standard living conditions for far too long. It is imperative that designers, brands and thought leaders are responding to the growing demands of the rental market to create a fairer, more progressive and desirable life for home renters.
Speakers will reflect on how the home is being affected by fundamental shifts in the renting market and why product design needs to work harder than ever in rental accommodation to adhere to flexible/fluid living situations.

He has been Head of Design Curating & Writing at Design Academy Eindhoven, director of Strelka Press, the design critic of The Guardian, and the editor of Icon magazine. His book Radical Cities: Across Latin America in Search of a New Architecture is published by Verso.
Maria is Macro Insights Leader at IKEA Group globally and an expert in IKEA’s annual Life at Home Report. She leads research and insight projects that aim to understand the macro context that the IKEA business operates in, investigating current topics into people attitudes, behaviours and exploring the home lives of people around the world.
As Architectural Lead, Jamiee works primarily with projects with an architecture, design and artistic focus. Jamiee has been leading the Shared Living explorations at SPACE10 and will start to bridge and feed architectural and cultural knowledge across projects as well as setting an overall architectural framework for SPACE10.
Co-founder of Apparata Architects with Astrid Smitham. Apparata Architects is a studio for architecture, design and research. Projects include the restructuring of a vacated listed Carnegie Library in Manor Park, London, into a new form of public arts and studio space and a new artists co-housing block with workshops and public events hall. He currently leads a studio at the Royal College of Art.
