Design Museum Academy Creative Workshop
Design Camp: Escape from Thunder Island
Hosted by architecture practice Kennedy Woods, join the Design Pirates crew through a series of games and challenges. Build your boat to escape the treacherous Thunder Island using creativity, teamwork and cunning strategy to see all hands to safety... watch out for the sharks!
Suitable for children aged 8–11.
In this fun and engaging workshop, you will collaborate on hands-on challenges designed to build-up creative problem-solving skills.
Please note that all equipment, materials and light refreshments will be provided, but you must bring a packed lunch.
The workshop revolves around four key themes:
Building teamship: Teammates will find common ground and come up with a shared team identity, to design their team's pirate flag and outfit.
Strategy: The teams will race in a scavenger hunt, where they’ll need to cooperate and plan ahead to plot a winning course!
Communication and listening: Each team will help a nominated team member navigate an obstacle course whilst blindfolded.
Prototyping and hands-on building: The teams will design and build miniature boats.
The session leaders, Chris Kennedy and Tom Woods, have run their practice together for ten years. They first met over a pack of crayons as young children. They believe that design education should be accessible, inclusive, and engaging, and have delivered workshops for cultural institutions, universities, schools, and nurseries all over the UK introducing children to the possibilities of a career in the creative field.
