What to expect

Can you read a video game?

How can you design a game where the player can choose what to do?

In this introductory workshop, learn how to create your own text-based video game with the coding engine Twine and how you can give players the ability to choose their path.

You will create your own character and give them a mission, building the story and steps into your own video game to keep your player hooked.

Discover interesting ways to create a narrative, learn more about the history of storytelling and find out why video games are the biggest revolution in fiction since the invention of the novel.

Learning outcomes:

  • Basics of storytelling

  • Basic coding concepts and how to apply them to logic problems.

  • Visualising storylines and creating mapping frameworks for them

  • Critical analysis and constructive feedback

Please note that all equipment, materials and light refreshments will be provided for the duration of the session, but you must bring a packed lunch.
