The new Design Museum – six months on This event is now over

An evening in Clerkenwell with Alice Black and Chris Masson

An evening of drinks and canapés in Clerkenwell followed by an in-conversation around the challenges faced when transforming a listed building into a 21st century museum and review of the Design Museum's first six months in its new home.

What to expect

On the 25 May, during Clerkenwell Design Week, the Design Museum will have been open for 6 months and Bulthaup hosted an evening reception at its Clerkenwell showroom for the museum’s members & supporters. Drinks and canapés designed by Parabola chef Rowley Leigh were served before an ‘in conversation’ with Alice Black, Co-Director of the museum and Chris Masson, the architect from John Pawson’s office who led the project. They discussed, among other things, the challenges faced when transforming a listed building, with a very distinctive architectural style, into a 21st century museum and the world’s leading institution dedicated to contemporary design. They also reviewed the first six months of the museum in the space which is three times the size of the original one founded by Sir Terence Conran on Shad Thames in 1989.
