Competitions
Your Design City
Deadline for submissions 1 December 2008
Don't Panic and the Design Museum have been working together with Flickr to invite you to share your photography on the theme of Design Cities.
The new Design Cities exhibition at the Design Museum commemorates seven key cities at their creative heights through contemporary design - London, Paris, Vienna, Dessau, Los Angeles, Milan and Tokyo.
We don't mind where you come from though - we'd like to see contemporary design in your cities, so show us your favourite contemporary design, whether it be architecture, furniture, vehicles, technology or fashion. We want to know what makes the metropolis personal to you, so surprise us!
A panel of 3 judges (to be announced) will select 20 photos to be printed and exhibited in the Design Museum in January 2009. One photograph will be selected to be printed on 80,000 Don't Panic posters and distributed across the UK and some major international cities.
To submit your photograph, add it to the Design Cities group on Flickr before 1 December 2008, be sure you read the Group Rules before joining.
Some things to keep in mind before you submit your photos:
- We’d love it if you could tag and geotag your photos to show us what city they were taken in (and you’ll be able to see where everyone else’s Design Cities are – how cool is that?)
- Try and show us your own personal take on things, don’t be scared to be different.
- Choose carefully what you submit, go visit the Design Cities exhibition or take a look at the website, you can only submit 3 photos, so make sure they are your best shots!
We look forward to seeing your photos soon.

Through its annual open exhibition opportunities, Orleans House Gallery in Twickenham helps artists both locally and nationally to showcase their work in group exhibitions. Each year, over 500 individual artists (excluding those participating in Arthouse) exhibit work in a range of open exhibitions across three galleries - Orleans and Stables Galleries, Twickenham and the Riverside Gallery in Richmond.
In 2009, they have further opportunities for you to submit artwork for a thematic exhibition at Orleans House Gallery showcasing contemporary domestic design from textiles to furniture. Any media and style is considered.
• Artists can submit up to 5 original works either via A4 sized photographic prints, colour printouts or high-resolution jpegs submitted on CD. Original artwork is not accepted.
• Please clearly label each submission with: artist’s name, title of work, publication, date, media, approximate size and price before commission if the work is for sale (the gallery will add on an additional 40% commission to the artist’s price).
• In addition, please enclose contact details, an artists statement and CV.
• There is a £10.00 administration charge (which also contributes towards exhibition costs); £7.50 concessions (please include proof). Please make cheques payable to ‘L.B.R.U.T’. Your submission will not be accepted without payment.
