Unpacking the Design Process
Unpacking the Design Process workshop has been developed with Level 3 vocational learners in mind (BTEC and UAL Diploma). It is also suited to Foundation (Level 3 to 4) learners or relevant A-Level subjects.
This 2 hour workshop has been created to meet the needs of Level 3 and 4 vocational learners studying design related courses. The workshop provides an insight into a professional design process working across multidisciplinary platforms. Drawing on the Design Museums exhibitions and collections the students will unpack the process of design by understanding the brief, relevant research and analysis, problem solving, communication and evaluation.
Fridays during term time only:
2 hours 10.30-12.30 and 13.30-15.30
Cost: £200 per session (up to 25 students)
Total Guided Learning Hours (GLH): minimum 4 hours including self-directed post-workshop activities
When making your booking you will automatically be allocated a self-directed visit to the Designer Maker User exhibition to complement your workshop times:
•For a 10:30-12:30 workshop, you will receive a 12:30-13:00 lunchroom slot and a 13:00-13:45 Designer Maker User session.
•For a 13.30-15.30 workshop, you will receive a 12.00-12.30 lunchroom slot and 12:30 -13:15 Designer Maker User session.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes in advance of your session.
Accompanying staff free at all learning events. Advance booking essential. Booking workshops at least 12 weeks in advance is recommended.
Tutors wishing to bring a Level 2 vocational group may wish to compare the offer provided to schools, Hands on Design workshops. They are encouraged to discuss their expectations and intended learning outcomes before booking an Unpacking the Design Process workshop, so that the content level may be differentiated as required.

We ask that one tutor is present for every ten students. Please note that failure to comply with this request may result in admission being refused.
The Design Museum is open daily (excluding Christmas Day and Boxing Day) from 10:00 -18:00 – last entry 17:00.
The museum is fully accessible via wheelchair with lifts operating across all floors inside the premises. Unfortunately there is no parking provision on site for Blue Badge holders. However, please do consult the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea website for local parking bays.
the day of your visit
The Design Museum has good public transport links via the underground, rail and bus. Due to limited space available in the local area for coaches, we recommend using public transport for your visit. Schools in the Greater London Area can apply for free transport when making visits to museums.
Please enter the museum by the main entrance on Kensington High Street. The lead tutor should contact the admissions desk on arrival – please leave students with additional tutors in the Atrium.
There is a common room onsite for students to have lunch. Please ensure the room is clean and all food waste in the bin before leaving.
Tutors and accompanying adults are required to supervise students at all times while at the Design Museum. Please read the terms and conditions for guidance.
