Details of just some of the activities you can take part in on Family Day:
Design Action Packs
Collect your Design Action Pack on the ground floor, for a more enjoyable and informative visit.
Drawing areas
These are situated within the galleries, enabling you to create your own designs for futuristic buildings, pieces of furniture and design products inspired by the exhibitions.
Music
Visit the Heart 106.2 Feel Good Area.
11am - 3pm Balloon Workshop (ground floor)
Designer and Illustrator Richard Hogg leads an interactive workshop, encouraging visitors to add to an ever growing object made from balloons.
11.30 - 12pm Meet the Designer: Yasmin Rizvi, Hat Designer in the education centre (second floor)
Milliner Yasmin Rizvi creates beautiful and chic sculptural headpieces. Yasmin discusses her work, along with the processes and materials she uses. After her talk you can go down to the Design Museum Space and have an opportunity to make your very own fabulous hat.
12 pm - 3pm Kid’s Activity Workshops in the Design Museum Space (between first and second floors)
Design and make your own cool keyrings, badges, fabulous hats and hair pieces, as well as colourful finger puppets. Workshops led by design and education specialists.
12pm - 12.15pm Exhibition Introduction Talk: Richard Rogers + Architects – From the House to the City (first floor gallery)
This short introduction to the Richard Rogers exhibition will give families an overview of the work on display which includes models and architectural drawings.
12.30 - 1.15pm Meet the Designer: Guy Parker-Rees, Children’s Book Illustrator (education centre)
Guy's lively illustrations have added warmth and colour to over forty children’s books and his delightful images engage children of all ages. Join Guy for an informal workshop as he explains his illustration process and demonstrates simple drawing techniques to make your illustrating dreams a reality.
2pm - 2.45pm Meet the Designer: Sato Hisao, Product designer (education centre)
Japanese product designer Sato Hisao creates unique playful characters
through paper engineering. With a mission to make design a hands-on and fun experience for all ages, Sato discusses his work, and will lead a short workshop and opportunity for families to try their hand at playful paper engineering.
2.45 - 3pm Exhibition Introduction Talk: Tim Walker + Sam Hecht (second floor galleries)
The second tour of the day will give visitors a short overview of the works of product design studio Industrial Facility and fashion photographer Tim Walker.
Fabulous Finale Photo Shoot, 2.45pm - 4pm (second floor gallery)
Before leaving the museum pose for a fashion photo shoot with your self-designed hats and accessories. The photographs will appear on the Design Museum website designmuseum.org. The funkiest family photo will win a Design Museum family membership pass and goodie bag.
