Flash

Name of Designer: Eley Kishimoto // Date of design: 2001

Flash is a graphic print design that can be applied to any number of objects. Working in collaboration with other designers and brands Eley Kishimoto has lent the signature Flash print to wallpaper, a car, shoes, a motor bike helmet and a short film, among other things.

WHAT DO YOU SEE?

Flash is a bold graphic design in either black and white or red and white. Flash is not a physical object but a 'skin' that can be applied to other objects to change the way they look. The zig-zagging pattern suggests movement giving whatever objects it is applied to a new dynamic.

WHAT IS IT MADE OF?

Because Flash is a digital graphic design rather than an object an exact copy can be produced at any size, in any form, using any material. The pattern of zig-zagging lightning bolts can be endlessly repeated.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

Because Flash is so highly associated with fashion design team Eley Kishimoto the other objects become associated with high profile designers. It allows Eley Kishimoto to explore outside the boundaries of fashion design and work with other designers on collaborative projects.

WHAT IS ITS IMPACT?

The lightning like pattern has become Eley Kishimoto's signature design. By collaborating with other designers and letting them use Flash they get a virtual seal of approval. The loose collection of objects that have been re-printed with Flash all present positive associations for the Eley Kishimoto brand, including a 'green' electric car, and the ubiquitous converse shoe.
