At its simplest 'aesthetics' means the way something looks and feels but it is also used to describe the study of why the way that some objects look or feel creates a positive emotional reaction in us. Why do we like blue skies more than grey?  Why do we prefer one shape over another?  Aesthetics is at the centre of every design decision, even ones you don't know you are making.
